As the fourth ship of its class, the heavy cruiser Kumano was originally laid down as a light cruiser under the London Naval Treaty, yet planned from the start for a future conversion to a heavy cruiser. After the restrictions were lifted, the main armament grew from 15.5cm to 20.3cm, raising displacement from 8,500 to 12,400 tons. This model uses exclusive special mold pieces to reproduce the variations between the Kumano and her sister ships, including the air supply trunk, aft mast profile, and jib crane style, plus the sloped side and closed portholes found on late-war combat-modified vessels.

Once assembled, the model is approximately 11.3 x 1.4 x 2.0 inches (287 x 36 x 52 mm) in size, making it a small but feature-packed addition to any naval collection. Also included are two Zero three-seat reconnaissance seaplanes and one Zero observation aircraft, molded in gray for easy painting. This Japan-made product combines molds created between 2018 and 2025, with the hull sides and bottom formed from a dedicated new mold for the full-hull version.
