Z/X -Zillions of enemy X Card Game
Z/X -Zillions of enemy X- (ゼクス) is a Japanese strategic trading card game set in a near-future world where mysterious Black Points connect modern Japan to five different future worlds. Published by Broccoli and officially credited to Broccoli and Nippon Ichi Software, the TCG launched in Japan on July 27, 2012. Players summon beings known as Z/X onto a three-by-three battlefield, manage resources, defend their Player Square, and attempt to remove all four of the opponent’s Life cards.
A standard Z/X deck contains exactly 50 cards, including 20 cards with an Ignition Icon, and may be supported by a separate Dynamis deck containing up to 16 Extra cards. The Japanese product line includes Ignition Packs, traditional booster and Extra Packs, constructed Start Dash Decks, Character Decks, Story Decks, promotional cards, downloadable Free Cards, singles, sleeves, playmats, and premium collector products. Current Ignition Packs are officially priced at ¥660 per five-card pack and ¥6,600 per ten-pack box, although prices for older, limited, and discontinued releases can vary considerably.
Popular Z/X -Zillions of enemy X- card and product types
Explore the principal Japanese Z/X products available for beginners, competitive players, character collectors, sealed-product collectors, and fans building decks around one of the game’s worlds or protagonist pairs:
- Japanese Ignition Packs: The current primary randomized product format. Each pack contains five cards and introduces new systems, deck support, reprints, foil treatments, and cards connected to established protagonists, partner Z/X, dragons, idols, and category-based strategies.
- Japanese Booster Packs: The original long-running product format used throughout the B01–B51 series. Pack size, price, rarity distribution, and box configuration differ depending on the release era.
- Extra Packs: Smaller or theme-focused expansions built around dragons, idols, popular character groups, reprints, anniversary collections, multimedia projects, or licensed collaborations such as Azur Lane and BLACK LAGOON.
- Booster Boxes: Sealed boxes containing multiple packs from one expansion. Current Ignition Pack boxes contain ten packs, although older booster and Extra Pack boxes may contain five, ten, or 20 packs.
- Start Dash Decks: Constructed products designed to provide the cards needed to begin playing immediately. They often focus on one Player and partner Z/X and may include Extra Deck cards, alternate versions, foil cards, sleeves, markers, or other supplies.
- Character Decks: Fixed card products centered on an established Z/X protagonist, heroine, dragon maiden, idol, or category. Many are sold through the official Z/X Card Gacha platform rather than standard randomized retail distribution.
- Story Decks: Constructed products linked to a particular chapter of the Z/X narrative. They combine playable cards with characters, factions, and conflicts from the ongoing storyline.
- Free Card Booklets: Official printable or distributed cards that can be used in supported play. Z/X introduced a Free Card system to help new players try decks and mechanics without first buying a complete booster collection.
- Player Cards: Cards representing the human or central character associated with a deck. A Player Card is placed in the Player Square and is not counted as part of the 50-card Main Deck.
- Z/X Cards: The primary units summoned onto the three-by-three battlefield. They have a cost, color, power, race, abilities, and other information that determines how they move, attack, defend, and interact with a deck’s strategy.
- Event Cards: Cards that create immediate or conditional effects such as removal, protection, card searching, resource manipulation, power changes, or tactical responses.
- Dynamis Cards: Extra cards kept outside the Main Deck. The Dynamis may contain Z/X Extra, Event Extra, Shift, Z/X OverBoost, and other permitted Extra card types, depending on the current rules and deck system.
- Ignition Icon Cards: A standard deck must contain exactly 20 cards with the Ignition Icon. These cards interact with the game’s signature Ignition system when Life cards are lost or effects allow an Ignition check.
- Promotional Cards: PR cards are distributed through reservation campaigns, shop events, Z/X Start tournaments, Z/X Stream events, magazines, product bonuses, Card Gacha releases, conventions, and official organized-play programs.
- Single Cards: Individual Japanese Z/X cards allow players to obtain specific deck pieces, older reprints, favorite characters, foil versions, secret cards, or promotional releases without opening additional sealed packs.
- Official TCG Accessories: Broccoli produces Z/X sleeves, deck cases, playmats, card boxes, storage products, markers, online card-item lotteries, and character-themed supplies.
How Z/X -Zillions of enemy X- is played
- Three-by-Three Battlefield: Battles take place across nine Squares. Players summon Z/X, protect their Player Square, open attacking routes, and control the center and surrounding positions.
- Four Life Cards: Each player begins with four face-down Life cards. The first player to eliminate all four of the opponent’s Life wins the game.
- Fifty-Card Main Deck: A legal Main Deck must contain exactly 50 cards. Up to four cards with the same card name may normally be included.
- Twenty Ignition Icons: Exactly 20 cards in the deck must have an Ignition Icon, creating a fixed balance between standard cards and cards that may be played through Ignition checks.
- Resource Management: Cards placed in the Resource Zone are used to pay costs. Different deck colors and card combinations affect which Z/X and Events can be played efficiently.
- Player and Partner Strategy: Many decks are built around a Player Card and a recognizable partner Z/X, such as Azumi Kagamihara and Rigel or Sera Kurashiki and Orichalcum Tyranno.
- Dynamis Extra Deck: Up to 16 Extra cards can provide transformations, alternate forms, defensive responses, powerful summons, or additional tactical options outside the normal Main Deck.
- Modern Systems: Recent releases support mechanics such as Generate, Shield Shift, Unison Drive, Ascension, and Overdrive, while older cards may use systems such as Ignition OverBoost, Shift, Idearize, Idea Drive, and Alter Break.

Individual Z/X card values may be influenced by rarity, artwork, Player or partner popularity, competitive usefulness, foil processing, illustrator, alternate design, card condition, event distribution, product age, reprint history, print quantity, and collector demand. A Secret, Ultra Rare, English-language, discontinued, or tournament card is not guaranteed to retain or increase its market value. Prices may vary depending on product type, rarity, manufacturer, and release status.
Japanese vs English Z/X -Zillions of enemy X- cards
Z/X is primarily produced and supported as a Japanese-language Trading Card Game. A complete commercial English edition with equivalent booster, deck, event, and release schedules has not been launched.
- Japanese Card Text: The standard product line uses Japanese card names, abilities, reminder text, flavor text, race names, and rules terminology.
- Complete Japanese Product Range: Booster Packs, Ignition Packs, Extra Packs, Start Dash Decks, Character Decks, Card Gacha products, promotional cards, Free Cards, and accessories are created primarily for the Japanese market.
- Limited Official English Cards: Booster B44 included a first official English-language Secret Card campaign with six English card designs. These were limited campaign variants rather than the beginning of a complete English product line.
- Same Gameplay Identity: Official English campaign cards are treated as the corresponding Japanese card for deck construction and card-name limits.
- Japanese Reference Requirement: Official guidance for the B44 English cards required players to carry an accessible Japanese reference so the opponent could verify the latest Japanese card information.
- No Separate English Set Numbering: Limited English cards do not form a parallel English booster catalog comparable to established Japanese B, E, IG, or Start Dash product lines.
- Original Japanese Presentation: Japanese cards preserve the original terminology, character names, flavor text, product branding, and story references used by the franchise.
- Japanese Promotional Access: Z/X Start tournaments, Z/X Stream events, reservation campaigns, Card Gacha releases, magazines, and Japanese retailer programs provide cards that may be difficult to obtain internationally.
- Reading Requirements: International players who cannot read Japanese may need the official card database, translated rules, deck guides, or reference materials to play accurately.
- Tournament Availability: Most official organized play is centered in Japan. International buyers should check whether a local play group or event structure exists before purchasing cards primarily for competition.
Collectors looking for the full Z/X experience should choose Japanese products rather than relying on the small number of limited English campaign cards. The Japanese edition provides access to the complete card pool, original packaging, current Ignition Packs, character decks, collaboration cards, promotional releases, and official organized-play products.
